The SPD politician Sawsan Chebli calls for Twitter to be regulated in order to take action against hatred of communication platforms on the Internet. In an interview with RHEINPFALZ am SONNTAG, the 44-year-old Berliner with Palestinian roots said: “I don’t want to make Twitter more powerful, I want to regulate it. If Twitter and all platforms comply with the law, delete hate messages and false information, then the problem will be solved to a large extent.” Chebli also wishes that there would be a European platform “that operates under EU law and preferably from public ones Funds are promoted along the lines of the broadcasters”. In this way it can be avoided that advertising money is earned with hate. According to Chebli, “the future of democracy – whether we like it or not – is being negotiated on the internet”. Half of humanity is already exchanging information on social media for an average of two and a half hours a day.
