The SPD has lost votes in almost the entire Offenbach district, but it has increased in Dietzenbach. The Greens were able to double their parliamentary seats, and the CDU also won.
This time the Dietzenbachers clearly rejected the right-wing populists in the local elections and backed the established parties. The CDU wins two seats, is again the strongest force in the city parliament with 13 seats. The Greens lost something compared to the trend result from Sunday evening (24.9 percent), but their growth is still brilliant. The SPD is again the second strongest force and, in contrast to its performance in neighboring municipalities, was even able to gain ground. That also looked different on Sunday evening.
After counting the list crosses, the SPD was still at 20.4 percent on Sunday evening. “Many of us feared that the CDU would get outstanding results,” says SPD local club chairman Ahmed Idrees. Reason: WIR-BfD, which won 11.7 percent in the 2016 local elections, did not run this time. “Many of their supporters had a conservative mindset,” said Idrees. Now he is satisfied with eleven seats – one more than before. “Our aim is to rule in the city,” he says – and announces talks with other parliamentary groups.
Idrees sees the performance of his party as a sign that a change is desired – also in the office of mayor. The SPD candidate Dieter Lang will be in the runoff election on March 28th against the CDU-supported incumbent Jürgen Rogg.
The group of the Greens is now twice as big with ten parliamentarians: inside. Group leader Andrea Wacker-Hempel thanked the mayoral candidate René Bacher, who was defeated with 28.9 percent in the election, but “sold well”. Thanks in part to his election campaign and himself, the Greens have grown.
