Vohwinkel: Lienhardplatz: SPD counters criticism of the CDU

Wuppertal The SPD in Vohwinkel defends itself against the allegations by the CDU that they voted together with other factions against outdoor gastronomy on Lienhardplatz.
“Even the title of the press release, ‘SPD, Greens and Left Party vote against gastronomy on Lienhardplatz’ is completely wrong. We are not against gastronomy on Lienhardplatz, but in our rejection of the CDU application we are merely referring to ongoing considerations as to how can upgrade the Lienhardplatz overall,” said the parliamentary group leader Andreas Schäfer.
There have been “several tours and workshops in the recent past, in which the administration with various departments, BV members and interested Vohwinkel residents have taken part. Representatives of the CDU faction also took part.”
According to Schäfer, the city administration is “currently working intensively on the subject of Vohwinkel, in particular with Kaiserstraße, Lienhardplatz, Stationsgarten, train station and others. Our suggestion in the BV meeting was to address the two applications from the CDU regarding Lienhardplatz and Stationsgarten to the project team of the city administration, where both ideas will certainly be gladly accepted. Formulated as motions in the BV, both requests are not suitable at this point in time.”
Schäfer: “Of course there is no question that the city’s interest in upgrading Vohwinkel is due to the forthcoming Federal Horticultural Show. But that doesn’t mean that all considerations about this will only be implemented immediately before the BUGA. This will happen gradually and the design work in Vohwinkel will by no means be stopped, as the CDU press release wants to imply.”
