Under the heading, inspired by the philosopher Richard David Precht, «Who is Prime Minister Hendrik Wüst on Twitter, and if so, how many?» the SPD asked in the state parliament about the people behind the head of government’s social media account. The country’s answer is now available – and from the point of view of the opposition it is “a bad joke”.
In the government’s brief reply to the SPD’s minor request, it says: “The support and maintenance of Hendrik Wüst’s personal Twitter channel is provided by” Hendrik Wüst, Prime Minister of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia + State Chairman of the CDU NRW, as stated in the public profile description, and his team “». It remains to be seen whether the said “team” is a member of the party or the state chancellery – which is explosive from the point of view of the SPD.
So it says in the social media guidelines of the state government, which are available to the German press agency: “Personal accounts” of government members may not be maintained and operated by employees. They are only allowed to take care of the accounts of a ministry, for example, not a person.
The media expert of the SPD parliamentary group, Alexander Vogt, called the government’s brief answer to his small question on Wednesday “a cheek”. He expects “clear answers” to his questions, says Vogt: “Who is behind“ and his team ”from the Twitter profile description – the State Chancellery or the CDU party office? And what do the state government’s social media guidelines say about this – does the Prime Minister contradict his own guidelines? ” The State Chancellery’s answer to a dpa request was initially still pending.
