“As early as 2019, we expressed the fear in an application that a sale would lead to precipitation. That has now come true, although the SPD in Hüls claimed otherwise,” says Daniel Franzen, BV spokesman for the CDU Hüls.
In December 2019, the district council discussed the sale of the property behind closed doors. Even then, the CDU argued that the old tree, which is worthy of protection, could be felled by construction. However, the district manager at the time, Hans Butzen (SPD), said on Facebook that the tree was protected by the local development plan. “We have now submitted an application to shed some light on this,” says Franzen, who speaks of a “false statement” by the SPD.

The leader of the SPD, Martin Reyer, counters: The building permit on the property was granted by the city of Krefeld on September 30, 2021. According to Reyer, it is “very remarkable” that the CDU is now accusing the SPD of dishonesty in connection with the felling of the oak tree. The information given at the time that the oak was outside the construction window was correct. However, the statement by the city administration, according to which the tree is protected by this, was apparently no longer tenable because of the protruding roots.

The sleeve SPD regrets the fall, but the question arises as to why the CDU and in particular the current sleeve district leader Timo Kühn apparently did not take care of it earlier. It is questionable to blame Kühn’s predecessor, Hans Butzen, for the felling.
