SPC Samlip Siheung Factory has suffered the disgrace of being the worst food hygiene company.

According to the National Assembly audit data titled ‘Status of SPC Group Food Sanitation Act Detection and Disposition Status for the Past 5 Years’ submitted by the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety by Rep. Nam In-soon (Democratic Party of Korea, Seoul Songpa), a member of the National Assembly Health and Welfare Committee, on the 23rd, The total number of cases of violation of the Food Sanitation Act was found to be 68.

Of these, 454 cases were inspected after complaints were received from consumers, and 49 of them were caught. In addition, 195 on-site inspections were conducted, of which 19 were crackdowns.

Looking at the status by reason of violation, ‘violation of standards and specifications’, such as mixing of foreign substances (hair, etc.) into products, was the most frequent with 49 cases, 48 ​​of which were only correction orders, and 1 case of product manufacturing suspension (15 days). It stopped.

Next, there were 8 cases of ‘violation of hygienic handling standards’, 7 cases of ‘non-compliance with safety management certification standards (HACCP)’, 4 cases of ‘violation of labeling and advertising’, and 1 case of ‘violation of business operator compliance requirements’.

In addition, administrative measures for 68 violations of the Food Sanitation Act included 56 ‘correction orders’, accounting for 82% of the total. There were 11 cases of ‘imposition of fines’ (total fines of 4.78 million won), followed by one case of product manufacturing suspension (15th).

In particular, the place with the largest number of violations among food factories was SPC Samlip Siheung Factory (26 cases), and all 26 cases were ‘violations of standards and specifications’. The reason for the detection was that hair, carbide, vinyl, insects, wrapping paper, plastic, thread, wood, etc. were mixed in.

In addition, the food factory was confirmed to have violated the Food Sanitation Act in 5 cases in 2019, 10 cases in 2020, 2 cases in 2021, 5 cases in 2022, 3 cases in 2023, and 1 case as of June 2024.

Rep. Nam In-soon said, “It is a big problem that cases of repeated violations of the Food Sanitation Act are limited to correction orders even as boycotts against SPC companies are intensifying.” He added, “The Ministry of Food and Drug Safety can ensure that the public can consume food with peace of mind.” “Strict management supervision and sanctions must be implemented to ensure compliance, and if there are repeated violations, stronger penalties must be imposed,” he said. /Reporter Bae Jong-seok
