“Spartak Trnava Wins Slovak Cup 2022/2023 Final in Extra Time Against Slovan Bratislava”

TRNAVA – FC Spartak Trnava football players defended their triumph in the Slovak Cup. In Monday’s final of the Slovnaft Cup 2022/2023, they defeated ŠK Slovan Bratislava 3:1 after extra time at their home stadium and followed up on last year’s victory over this opponent. Spartak won the cup trophy for the fourth time in the era of independence after 1998, 2019 and 2022.

In an excellent atmosphere and a record number of spectators in the SP final, Spartak was the first to threaten the “home team”, but Trnovský hid Daniel’s shot from a distance in his gloves. In the next few minutes, the battle between the sixteen was taking place, there was no excitement in front of the gates. In the 24th minute, Kankava played a risky back header at Trnovský in his own penalty area and his intention was caught by Taiwo, Slovan managed this situation unscathed.

Spartak had the biggest opportunity at the end of the first half. Ofori got to the shot in the penalty area and forced Trnovský to make a save, Bukatu’s subsequent shot lacked accuracy. Kuck had the last word in added time, who missed the left post after Čakvetadze’s cross in a good position.

Slovan opened the scoring in the 57th minute. Čavrič headed the ball into the penalty area to Green, who shot past Vantruba from an angle – 0:1. The final got a new charge, Spartak had to open up the game more. However, he lacked ferocity and directness in the construction of attacking actions.

After an hour of play, Medvedev almost caught Vantruba from a distance, the goalkeeper of Spartak kicked the ball into the corner. Slovan maintained a narrow lead, but in the end, he retreated too much into defense. That was water to the mill for Spartak, who sensed a chance to equalize. In the 82nd, Ristovski was close to him, whose attempt at the last moment was blocked by Kašia with a sacrificial save. Four minutes later, however, a free Taiwo volleyed the ball into the goal after a cross from the right side – 1:1.

Just like last year, it went to overtime. In it, he could have brought Slovan closer to the Kankava trophy in the role of a fake striker, but he missed the goal with a cross shot. The pace of the duel was falling and it was headed for a penalty shootout, but in the end it did not happen. In the 111th minute, Paur connected on Savvidis’ cross and sent Spartak into the lead – 2:1 pp. Slovan could no longer find an answer to the opponent’s goal and lost to him in the final for the second time in a row. In added time, Twardzik from the eleven sealed the triumph of the “angels” with a dose of luck – 3:1 pp.
