Sparta will challenge the Romanian FCSB in the 3rd preliminary round of the Champions League

Prague – Sparta’s football players will challenge FCSB in the 3rd preliminary round of the Champions League. The Romanian team beat Maccabi Tel Aviv 1-0 in the away leg in Budapest with a 90th-minute goal from substitute William Baeten. The first match in Bucharest ended goalless.

In the 2nd preliminary round, Prague eliminated the Irish Shamrock Rovers after winning 2:0 away and 4:2 at home. The defenders of the Czech title will play the opening duel with the reigning Romanian champions on Tuesday at Letná, the rematch is scheduled for a week later.

Sparta has faced FCSB, which is the former famous club of Steaua Bucharest, in cups four times. The last time in the 2016/17 season coincidentally in the 3rd preliminary round of the LM, Sparta was then eliminated after a home draw 1:1 and an away loss 0:2. The last time FCSB faced Liberec in the cups, to which they lost 0:2 in the 3rd preliminary round of the European League in the 2020/21 season. However, due to the coronavirus infection in the team, he started in a significantly weakened lineup.

Bodö/Glimt mastered the double match of the 3rd preliminary round superbly. The Norwegian team first beat RFS Riga 4:0 at home and won 3:1 in the Latvian capital today. Home defender Petr Mareš spent the entire rematch on the bench.

Dynamo Kyiv did similarly. The Ukrainian team followed up on the opening home win 6:2 and beat Partizan Belgrade 3:0 at its stadium. Jagiellonia Bialystok also advanced without problems. They beat Panevežys 3:1 at home, last week they won 4:0 in Lithuania.

Denmark’s Midtjylland defeated the Andorran team Santa Coloma 1:0 and advanced 3:0 on aggregate with an away victory. Ludogorets will play the 3rd preliminary round of the LM despite today’s 0:1 loss against Dinamo Minsk, as they won 2:0 at home. PAOK Thessaloniki also watched the progress. The Greek team won 1:0 on the soil of Banja Luka in Bosnia and succeeded 3:2 at home.
