Sparta Tribute Match: Jágr, Sparta Legends, and Czechoslovak Hockey Stars Reunite for Historic Event

In the current year, Jágr has not yet played for Kladno and it is not very likely that this would happen in the next few days. Although he does not want to quit and would like to help the Knights in the ongoing season.

“Sparta is the biggest club in the Czech Republic, and the best player in our history should not be missing from its celebrations,” said Sparta CEO Petr Vosmík to Jágra.

“Getting Jarda was not easy, he is a great professional. When we approached him for the first time, he didn’t know if and when he would return (to hockey). But we were patient. But I am close to Kladno, Jirka Burgr (Sports Manager of the Knights) and I are great friends and he helped me a lot with Jarda,” declared the best scorer in Sparta’s history and today its executive director Petr Ton.

Jiří Hrdina, David Výborný, Richard Žemlička, Jaroslav Hlinka or Michal Neuvirth will start for Sparta. For the Czechoslovak selection, legends Tomáš Vlasák, Petr Čajánek, Ondřej Pavelec and many others.

In the Sports Hall built in 1962, Sparta won six titles, Czechoslovakia triumphed there at the World Cup in 1972 and 1985. “It will be a kind of hockey last dance of the hall,” says Sparta board member Jakub Dlouhý, saying that it will be a symbolic hockey farewell to the memorial hall.

Tickets are already on sale, the cheapest ones cost 390 crowns. The lower floor is already full. In connection with the December exhibition match, Sport.cz Instagram users have a surprise in the form of three double tickets to the match.

“It will be a big hockey holiday. We will meet again with the players with whom we won titles in Holešovice. We haven’t seen many of them since. And to play again in front of a full Sports Hall, I thought we would never experience that again,” added Ton.

Both teams will play the match in special jerseys with the “120” logo on the chest. The Spartans will wear a black and gold kit, while their opponent will wear a white and gold kit. “They are beautiful, clean. I wouldn’t have believed that I would ever wear a jersey with a Spartan logo in my career,” laughs one of the goalkeepers of the Czechoslovak national team, Ondřej Pavelec.

Sparta will be led by Richard Žemlička as captain, followed by coach František Výborný from the substitutes. That is, large club symbols with an ace in the coat of arms. “It is a great honor for me to be a coach for Sparta again at such an event,” admits Výborný, who led Sparta to three championships.
