Sparta Returns to the Top: Roman Horák Shines in Preliminary Game Victory

Sparta managed the preliminary game of the 8th round, beating Vítkovice 3:2 at home, and thus returned to the interim first place in the extra league table. The player of the match was Roman Horák, the author of one goal and two primary assists.

Sparta returns to the top of the top competition after two days. She lost first place on Sunday due to an unsuccessful duel with Kometa, which did not score a single goal.

She didn’t even enter Tuesday’s preliminary game well, losing 0:1 against Vítkovice for a long time. But then the mentioned one started to rampage

While the people of Prague will bask in the top tier until at least Friday, the struggling Vítkovice worsened their score with the defeat in the preliminaries and fell behind Olomouc to twelfth place. The pre-season co-favorite did not get out of a series of bad results – he won only twice in the eight rounds so far.

Testimonials from coaches

Pavel Gross (coach of Sparta Prague): “We are happy for the three points, because we didn’t manage to score a goal here against Brno and we weren’t good, we have to say that honestly. It was a little to see that we were struggling. We talked about the first third, but it wasn’t the real deal. I think it was a balanced match, we played against a very good team. They had good momentum from the last game when they came back in the third period and the team always takes that with them to the next game. We have to praise the guys for driving on. In the second period, the skating improved, we said something about it, about the neutral zone, and things went better. Sometimes there is momentum in the match and sometimes you are pulled by one line. Sobotka’s formation pulled us for a long time, this time it was Horák’s line that scored three goals, which was very important. Sometimes it is, that’s hockey. We are happy that after that match on Sunday we got on that winning wave and we want to keep it going. We beat a very strong team and we are happy for the three points.”

Radek Philipp (assistant coach of Vítkovic): “Our plan was to play well at the back. Try to turn the game as quickly as possible, play simple hockey in the defensive third and wait for breaks. I think that in the first period we had quite a few breaks that could have been implemented differently. Sparta pushed us in the second period. She played aggressive hockey, putting us under pressure. But we held on thanks to Klimeš, who gave a great performance. Of course entering the third period and immediately the goal, which hurt us in the game, because we wanted to play much more actively. Towards the end of the game we dramatized it and maybe it was a little bit short and with a bit of luck we could have got a point. You can’t deny the boys’ effort and combativeness, but Sparta was better and deservedly won.”
