Sparta received Australian Mabil as their fourth winter reinforcement

Sparta Prague was strengthened by Australian representative Awer Mabil. This year’s World Cup participant in Qatar will host Letná from Cadiz, Spain, part of the deal is an option. The 27-year-old midfielder became Prague’s fourth winter signing.

Mabil will be reunited with Sparta’s Danish coach Brian Prisk, who previously coached him at Midtjylland. The Kenyan native has also worked in Adelaide, Esbjerg, Pacos Ferreira, Kasimpasa and most recently Cadiz. He played in the Champions League for Midtjylland.

Mabil made 31 appearances for Australia’s A national team and scored eight goals. At the last World Cup, where the team reached the round of 16, he made two starts in the group as a substitute.

“I played my best football with coach Prisk. We know each other very well. He’s an ambitious guy, so we have these ambitions in common. And showing that here will be our goal.” reported for Spartan website Mabil.

“I want to fight for titles. So the main reason I came here is to win, fight for the title and also play European cups again. I played the Champions League with my former club in Denmark. It was a good feeling and I’d really like to relive it. And that’s the focus for me here.” He added.

The Leten expect a lot from Mabil. “Awer is an attacking winger, a hardworking player who can outrun opponents in one-on-one duels. He has experience in international matches, having played for both the Australian national team and in UEFA competitions.” said Spartan sporting director Tomáš Rosický. “He is a team player with a winning mentality. The advantage is that the manager knows him well having worked together at Midtjylland.” He added.

Sparta had already acquired three other foreign winter reinforcements before Mabil. After the fall, the third team in the first table signed Finn Kaan Kairinen, another Qazim Laci midfielder from Albania, and the back row was reinforced by Serbian defender Dimitrije Kamenovič.
