The hockey players of Sparta Prague entered the semi-finals of the extra league with a home win over the championship Třinec 3:0. In the 25th minute, captain Michal Řepík opened the scoring, at the beginning of the final part, Miroslav Forman secured the lead in a weakened position, and Ondřej Najman sealed the result during a power play into an empty goal.
Goalkeeper Jakub Kovář kept a clean sheet for the first time in this year’s playoffs and the third time this season. The second game of the four-match series is played again at the O2 Arena on Wednesday from 18:00.
Sparta, who eliminated Liberec in the quarter-finals in four games already on March 20, started for the first time in this play-off with center Vladimír Sobotka and also with defender Michal Moravčík, who had been absent since the second match against the White Tigers after he was hit by Oscar Flynn . Třinec ended the series with České Budějovice in seven games only eight days later.
Visiting goalkeeper Mazanec successfully solved the chances of Kousal and Irving in the second minute, and then he also dealt with Lajunen’s finish. Hudáček commissioned the blacksmith for the first time in the fifth minute. From a negative angle, he tried to surprise the Spartan goalkeeper Daňo. In the Steelers’ next opportunity, Cienciala’s pass was missed by Kundrátek at the left post. For Sparta, Forman threatened after Řepík’s pass, but he lacked accuracy and Mazan Kempný threatened before the first break.
At the beginning of the second half, Třinec defended against Polášek’s penalty and right after the power play, Horák did not have time to put the puck in from behind the goal at the left post. At 24:16, Sparta was already celebrating the lead. Repík ended a quick counterattack with an accurate shot from the left circle to the opposite post.
Kundrátek could answer, who ran onto Hrehorčák’s pass, but he didn’t mature with a backhand bluff on Kovář. On the other hand, Mazanec covered David Vitouch’s chance after Horák’s offer. The steel workers resisted even when Dravecký was expelled. Kovář handled Hudáček’s opportunity.
Třinec entered the third period actively, and after a foul by Mikliš, he got a power play, but it didn’t work out for him. Forman skated past the weakened Marinčin and beat Mazanc with a backhand bluff. At the end of the numerical advantage, Kurovský could correct the situation. It didn’t work out even in the 46th minute for Hudáček, who sent the puck at Kováří concrete from behind the goal, but Beaudin deflected it in front of the goal line.
In the 51st minute, he made his way through Vrána’s escape, but he also failed to beat the Spartan goalkeeper with a forehand bluff. On the final power play, Marinčina robbed Najman of the puck and closed the score 98 seconds before the end.
