The Sparta footballers defeated Celtic 4: 1 in the European League and scored points for the first time in the third round of the basic group.
Lukáš Juliš decided three goals today in Glasgow on the victory of the Letná team, which lost the previous two matches with a total score of 1: 7, the last goal was given by Ladislav Krejčí senior. Leigh Griffiths reduced the lead to 1: 2 in the second half.
In addition to the game failure after the interruption of the Czech league due to coronavirus, Sparta still had to deal with a number of absences. Coach Kotal could not count on goalkeeper number one Heč, Štetina, Hložek, Kozák, Hanousek, Minčev, Souček and Holec. In addition, at the last moment, the hitchhiker Čelůstka dropped out and only midfielder Dočkal started on the bench.
The midfielder pair Pavelka and Plechatý started and the first start in the new season was also scored by the healed Hancko. Polidar and Karabec also appeared in the basic line-up. The former number one from Romania, the Romanian representative Nita, stood in the goal.
It took Sparta a moment to pick up the pace, but Celtic didn’t turn the initial twenty-minute advantage into a single chance. Then the guests took over the activity and in the 23rd minute Karlsson hit the crossbar.
A moment later, Biš caught Juliš in a great chance, but after the next corner, Sparta’s striker opened the score. Hancko first sent the ball with his head to the stick and Juliš pushed himself out of the stop.
Celtic had a first chance in the 37th minute and was almost equalized. Christie found a successful pass behind Elyounoussi’s defense and the Norwegian striker hit the crossbar.
At the end of the half, Nita liquidated Rogič’s attempt and Juliš added a second goal in the counterattack. After Karabc’s pass, he moved the ball and Bain did not reach the ground.
Shortly after the break, Juliš could have completed the hat-trick, but he did not punish Bain’s bad pass and shot out. After an hour of play, Sáček hit the bar from a distance and in the 65th minute came a penalty for a missed chance. Rogič got behind the defense, Nita still managed with his attempt, but reduced the alternating Griffiths from the finish.
Celtic came to life and put Sparta under pressure. However, the home team did not get into the unloaded chances and, on the contrary, they collected for the third time after a quick break. Karlsson escaped on the left and presented the ball to Juliš, who was right in front of the exposed goal.
Ladislav Krejčí senior made a substitution in the 90th minute.
Sparta won the cups outside after six consecutive defeats and in the group H table she is third place two points ahead of the last Celtic, which the Prague team will welcome in Letná in the next round in three weeks. The starting points belong to the leader Lille with seven points and to AC Milan with six points.
