Sparta captain Auassar suspended for three matches due to elbow strike | Football

Adil Auassar has been suspended for four games (one of which is conditional) after his red card in the home game against FC Utrecht. The defender of Sparta Rotterdam elbowed Sean Klaiber.

The 36-year-old Auassar let himself be lured out at the end of the first half with a free kick. The captain of Sparta was apparently annoyed by Klaiber and elbowed the defender of FC Utrecht, who was hit lightly.

Referee Joey Kooij had not observed the incident, but decided to draw the red after intervention by the VAR. With ten men, Sparta conceded three goals in the last twenty minutes: 0-3.

Due to his suspension – Sparta has already accepted the settlement proposal – Auassar will miss the matches against fellow townsman Excelsior (away), Vitesse (home) and FC Emmen (away). He can make his comeback for Sparta on April 2 in the derby against Feyenoord.

Auassar has only missed one game against Sparta this season, which is doing well in the Eredivisie. The team of trainer Maurice Steijn occupies sixth place and is heading for the play-offs for European football.
