Slavia and Sparta footballers will be in the second of four performance baskets at today’s draw of the basic groups of the European League in Nyon, Switzerland. The remaining Czech representative in the Liberec competition is in the worst fourth basket.
In the end, Sparta and Slavia didn’t have much to get into the strongest first basket. The Prague rivals are closely behind the second and third place out of 12 teams in the second basket.
All three Czech clubs can run into the toughest opponents from the first basket. They can get, for example, the English big clubs Arsenal and Tottenham, the Italian teams AS Rome and Naples or the German Leverkusen with the Czech forward Patrik Schick.
From the third basket, AC Milan with the star striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic or Hoffenheim with the Czech defender Pavel Kadeřábek can attribute the ticket to them.
Slavists and Spartans, on the other hand, cannot come across Ludogorec Razgrad with the Czech coach Pavel Vrba, who is also in the second basket with the Bulgarian team. The Letna team will also not compete with their recent star Guélor Kanga, who made it to the European League with the Red Star Belgrade. Liberec, on the other hand, cannot get Poznaň with midfielder Jan Sýkora or Omonia Nicosia with the Czech duo Jan Lecjaks and Michael Lüftner.
Slavia joined the European League group after losing in retaliation on the 4th preliminary round of the Champions League in Danish Midtjylland 1: 4 on Wednesday and did not enter the main stage of the more prestigious competition. Sparta qualified directly as the winner of the Czech Cup. Liberec managed three preliminary rounds in the qualification of the European League, in the final they defeated APOEL Nicosia at home 1: 0.
On the other hand, Pilsen lost in Israel to Hapoel Beer Sheva 0: 1 and ends up in the cups. Thus, for the first time in history, Czech football did not take the chance to have four teams in groups, three representatives are leveling the maximum.
