Viersen. On Saturday, April 23, 2022, the youth department of SV Blau-Weiss Concordia 07/24 Viersen eV organized the Sparkasse Krefeld U11 Cup in Helenabrunn for the 11th time, which is well-known far beyond the city limits. After this cup had to be canceled in 2020 and 2021 due to the Corona Pandemic, the organizers were again able to attract a strong field of participants
24 teams from Germany and neighboring countries present. This year, the field of participants again included a number of well-known clubs from the first and second Bundesliga, such as Borussia Mönchengladbach, KAA, Alemania, NEC Nijmegen, Augsburg, Union Berlin, Schalke, 1860 and HSV.

With perfect weather, the tournament started punctually at 10:00 a.m. The game was played in parallel in six groups of four on four courts. The playing time was 13 minutes each. The first two teams in each group played the quarter-finals and determined the semi-final pairings. Many games were very competitive and offered attractive football with intense excitement. The unexpectedly large number of visitors throughout the day contributed to the appropriate setting.
Blue-White Concordia also had two of their own teams in the field of participants. Of course, you didn’t stand a chance against this well-known competition, but you still managed to keep up at times and gain great experience.

The two teams that had already made the strongest impression during the tournament deservedly made it into the final: KAA Gent and 1860 Munich. Although Gent initially took the lead with a penalty kick, 1860 played their extremely strong combination game in front of a very large crowd of spectators in the final and also won the final comfortably 4-1. Since the Munich team had arrived with a large entourage of fans, the cheering on and off the pitch knew no bounds.

The awards ceremony took place at 5:00 p.m. The Sparkasse Krefeld, which gave its name to this important cup, insisted on handing over the winner’s trophy personally through Mrs. Ucar. Alemania Aachen and NEC Nijmegen followed in third and fourth place.
