Sparkasse boss Horst Herrmann dies after a short illness

“It is with great sadness that we announce that our CEO Horst Herrmann died yesterday after a short, serious illness. His death is a serious loss for all of us.” This is what the Kreissparkasse Saarlouis (KSK) announced on Friday. Herrmann is 60 years old and leaves behind his wife and two adult children. Herrmann announced his resignation as head of the KSK at the end of this year.

The news shocked the employees in Saarlouis and many colleagues from the savings bank organization as well as the countless people who had professional dealings with Horst Herrmann. He had been with the Sparkasse since 1998. Previously, after training at SaarLB and studying at the University of Mannheim, he was an auditor at the Saar Savings Bank Association. The Saarlouis native was appointed to the KSK board in 2004. On January 1, 2010, he succeeded Friedel Höhn as CEO of the KSK.

Herrmann’s two board colleagues, Stefan Klein and Uwe Bourgeois, are “deeply shocked by the death of our colleague” and say: “We mourn the loss of a great person.” The Saarlouis district administrator Patrik Lauer, who is also chairman of the KSK board of directors, names Herrmann “an outstanding leader. His clever perspective and visionary leadership have had a lasting impact on the Sparkasse and contributed significantly to the regional financial strength.”

And Cornelia Hoffmann-Bethscheider, President of the Saar Savings Bank Association, also commented: “The savings bank finance group is deeply saddened by the sudden death and mourns the loss of Horst Herrmann. He was a formative personality in the savings bank organization and a person with great vision.” She goes on to say: “With Horst Herrmann, the savings bank family is losing a valued colleague and companion.”
