The Spar retail chain is building a new dry goods warehouse in Graz. The storage area at the headquarters will be increased by around 14,000 square meters at a cost of around EUR 45 million. The enlargement is necessary due to the increasing population.
The new dry assortment warehouse in Puntigam will cover around 9,000 square meters. Around 270 branches in Styria and southern Burgenland are supplied from the headquarters in Graz.
Completion planned for 2024
And the need is increasing for several reasons: “One is, of course, population growth. That happens in Styria and of course that means an increase in volume. Corona has also changed shopping behavior. Eating out has decreased. These are things that interact,” explained Christoph Holzer, Managing Director of Spar Steiermark.
Therefore, an expansion of the headquarters in Graz became necessary. It was last expanded in 2010, says Holzer: “We are investing 45 million euros in this location here, where we are mainly expanding the dry goods warehouse.” System from the Knapp company, a neighbor of ours. A fully automated high-bay warehouse will be installed on part of the area.” The warehouse should be ready by mid-2024.
