Quim Duran is a Spanish trail runner from Barcelona. On December 26th, the 48-year-old won the traditional Catalan race “Cursa de Na’Dalt” – albeit in the women’s category. The Spaniard has usually started his career with men, but in the week of the year he stated that he was gender fluid.
“In my everyday life, with my children, at home or with friends, I feel like a man, but in the mountains I feel female,” Duran explained in best Gianni Infantino style.
First he claimed that he was not an opportunist: “I am almost always on the podium. I don’t have to play a woman to win.” However, “Quima”, as he called himself that day, later confessed to the Spanish media that he had registered with the women because the men’s start list was already full. Despite protests from the female competitors, Duran came out on top in the end and showed up to the awards ceremony wearing makeup, where he was allowed to pick up a ham – reportedly to boos. The organizers said they were taken by surprise by the event.

The case is only now circulating in the media because the responsible running association – where Duran is registered as a man – had to go into the books after the incident. The result: Quim Duran’s gender transition is not accepted. The Catalan was subsequently disqualified.
The winner of the race is now officially 22-year-old Laia Montoya. By the way: With his winning time in the women’s category, Duran would have finished 55th in the men’s category. (abu)

Daniel Yule was almost at the hotel on Sunday afternoon. After a major blunder he was in danger of missing the second run in Chamonix, France. Yule just qualified for the decision in 30th place – and with anger in his stomach, he raced to victory with the fastest time. Yule was able to take advantage of the fact that the slope was better for him than for the leaders at halftime.
