Carlos, the father of King Felipe, will not have to celebrate Christmas alone, El Pais writes. “There are no plans for a return of Don Juan Carlos, but there are plans for him to celebrate Christmas with his two daughters (Elena and Cristina) and some of his grandchildren,” the Spanish newspaper said.
Spain has, however, tightened the corona measures for the upcoming holidays. Between December 23 and January 6, the country’s 47 million inhabitants are even allowed to leave their borders only in exceptional cases, such as going to work and the doctor or for very close family or friends contacts. The regions, which are responsible for health care, can further tighten these movements on some days, depending on the evolution of the pandemic.
On December 24, 25 and 30, and January 1, a total of ten people, including children, will be allowed to be together in Spain, while the central government would rather stick to six. On Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve, the curfew may be pushed back to 1.30 am at the discretion of the regions. Now it starts between 10 pm and midnight. For example, Catalonia will use at least 1.30 hours.
United Arab Emirates
Juan Carlos secretly left Spain in early August. Two weeks later, the Royal Court of Spain confirmed that he had emigrated to the United Arab Emirates.
In a letter, the erstwhile king said he had left because of allegations of bribes in the construction of a railway in Saudi Arabia and because he “didn’t want to make things difficult” for King Felipe. Last month, the Spanish court opened a third investigation against the former King of Spain in connection with money laundering.
