Spanish right-wing protest against Sánchez brings together thousands of people –

Thousands of people, some 400.000 according to the organizersbut 25,000 according to the socialists, gathered today, Sunday, October 20, 2024, in Madrid to protest against the Government of Pedro Sánchez and demand general elections, therefore the resignation of the Spanish ruler.

The rally called by the right-wing Platform for Constitutional Spain, made up of a hundred civic associations, included the participation of dozens of politicians from the Popular Party and Vox.

The people, shouting “Sánchez resign” or “It’s not a party, it’s a mafia” and “Spain will not be another Venezuela” carried flags of Spain, as well as the European Union and the Cross of Burgundy. Thus, thousands of people gathered under the motto “For unity, dignity, law and freedom. General elections now!

The Conservatives’ Deputy Secretary of Organization, Carmen Fúnez, attended on behalf of the PP, and justified to the press the absence of the party leader, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, from the rally for “personal reasons.” Well, Feijóo recently underwent surgery for a retinal detachment.

On Vox’s side, its leader Santiago Abascal, demanded the resignation “in full” of the Government and trusted that the PP would make a “purpose to amend” what he called “agreements with the PSOE.”

Both the PP and VOX criticized Sánchez for the safe conduct and freedom of hundreds of ETA members who will be released from prison in the coming months.

Faced with this protest, from the socialists, the PSOE councilor in the Madrid City Council Enma López recalled that the end of ETA’s independence terrorism took place thirteen years ago, “precisely during the Government of the former socialist president José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero.
