Spanish Publishers Guild to lead Spanish delegation at 52nd edition of London Book Fair

The Federation of Publishers Guilds of Spain (FGEE) will lead the Spanish delegation that will participate in the 52nd edition of the London Book Fair, which starts from April 18 to 20, and where the Spanish sector will participate in one of the round tables.

The London Fair, as highlighted by the Spanish entity in a statement, represents a new opportunity for publishers, agents, booksellers, librarians, authors and vendors can press the state of the European publishing sector and explore new options for the export of Spanish books in a market like the English language.

In this sense, FGEE indicates that the markets of the United Kingdom and the United States account for a third of the world’s publishing production, Therefore, publishing in English increases the possibilities of international projection for Spanish authors..

The program for this edition of the London Book Fair includes the ‘Spotlight’ initiative for the second consecutive year. This program creates collaborations between selected publishing markets, in order to highlight the literature of selected countries or regions and show interesting opportunities within the market, positioning publishers, authors, illustrators and the book scene in general on an international stage. Thus, in this edition of the Spotlight Program, Ukraine will be the chosen country.

FOREIGN TRADE REPORT OF THE BOOK 2021

As the FGEE points out, pending the data for 2022, Spanish publishers, according to the Foreign Book Trade Report, exported to the United Kingdom, in 2021, a total of 15.69 million euros and 3.59 millions of copies.

Books represented 26.12 percent of exports, while the ‘Fascicles and kiosk material’, added 73.88 percent. The most exported book subjects to the United Kingdom were Non-University Education (31.52%), Social Sciences (28.04%), Scientific-technical (21.24%) and Literature (12.57%).
