Madrid announced Thursday that Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez has canceled his participation in the G20 summit scheduled for September 9-10 in India, due to his infection with Covid.
The Spanish government said in a statement that Sanchez “underwent the mandatory Covid test to participate in the G20 summit, and the result was positive.”
The statement indicated that the result of the examination appeared on Thursday afternoon, and therefore the Prime Minister “will not be able to go to New Delhi.”
The statement reassured that Sanchez, who was previously infected with the Covid virus, is now “in good condition and will continue to work from home.”
According to the statement, Spain will be represented in the G20 by Foreign Minister Jose Manuel Albares and Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy Nadia Calvino.
