Spanish police pick armed and wanted Belgian from bus

drug trafficking

An armed Belgian was picked off a bus in the Spanish capital Madrid on Tuesday. The man is suspected of ties to organized crime.

The Belgian was said to have been on his way to France and was, among other things, in possession of a rifle when he was arrested. An arrest warrant was issued against the man in our country for theft, kidnapping and manslaughter.

According to Spanish police, he had previously left Malaga, in the south of Spain, by bus and wanted to travel on to the French city of Nantes by another bus. In addition to bulletproof vests, two weapons and ammunition were found in his luggage.

He allegedly bought the weapons in Marbella, a luxurious seaside resort in southern Spain that is popular with international drug traffickers, the radio station Cadena Ser reported. Spanish police told the French news agency AFP that the case has nothing to do with terrorism, but that it involves “organized crime” and “drug trafficking.”
