Cristiano Ronaldo, 37, received little playing time during the autumn under Erik ten Hag’s management at Manchester United, and broke before the Qatar World Cup with the English big club to instead sign for Saudi Al-Nassr.
Recently there were reports that Ronaldo broke up with his former agent Jorge Mendes – after several years of partnership – and on Tuesday new information about the reason for that will come.
The Spanish newspaper El Mundo writes that Ronaldo gave an ultimatum to Mendes last summer to move to Bayern Munich or Chelsea – otherwise they would go their separate ways. Mendes is then said to have tried to get it done, but to no avail, which meant that the forward remained at the English club.
Furthermore, the agent is also said to have tried to get Ronaldo to move to Atlético Madrid and Borussia Dortmund – after the break-up with Manchester United, but when that didn’t work either, the parties went their separate ways.
“What was broken was not a contract, as Mendes never asks his players to sign it. What was broken was much more, a paternal, family and even business relationship”, writes the Spanish newspaper, referring to the fact that Mendes is the godfather of one of the forward’s children.
