Spanish insurance is committed to maintaining its humanist character despite digitization

The Insurance Week hosted the round table entitled ‘How to lead in an environment of dizzying change: towards a humanistic and ethical leadership in organizations’. In it they participated Jose Manuel Inchausti, Vice President and CEO Iberia of Mapfre; Olga Sanchez, CEO of AXA; Francisco Gimenez, president of Santander Seguros; and Patricia AyuelaCEO of Línea Directa.

In relation to humanist leadership, Olga Sanchez (AXA) remarked that “the insurance sector is a humanist sector. In short, we are people who work for people, It’s in our DNA.”. In this regard, he added that “at AXA we have four values that as a group are the backbone of our purpose: integrity, courage, one AXA and the customer first”.

For his part, Jose Manuel Inchausti (Mapfre) endorsed what Olga Sánchez contributed regarding the sector’s humanism. In this sense, she pointed out that “Mapfre comes from a mutuality. That marks a lot”. While she recalled moments like the one in the creation of the Mapfre Foundation or “when Mapfre brought from Europe the advocate of the insured. He also referred to the demutualization of Mapfre, “where the only ones who benefited are the mutualists, who became shareholders of the entity.” A scenario in which “employees, mediators and clients of the insurer must not be left behind”, she stressed.

In its turn, Francisco Gimenez (Santander) alluded to a “possible dehumanization” of the sector due to digital transformation, “although, science has always brought progress in this field.” And he added that “we are part of the financial services sector, where the most important thing is people.” In addition, he highlighted that “we have always known how to adapt as a sector to all changes, to digitization as well”. Here he pointed out that “improving communication implies advances in all senses, such as in terms of the personalization of the client, which will go further”.

By your side, Patricia Ayuela (Hotline) pointed out that “after digitization there are many people. People who develop programs for people”. Hence, he stressed, “Our team and our clients are the most important thing”. Thus, he concluded, “what has more strength is leading by example.”
