In Sunday’s Lewis Hamilton won the Formula One Spanish Grand Prix on Sunday, consolidating his lead in the championship standings.
Behind the British, who won for the fourth time in a row in Barcelona, Max Verstappen finished with Red Bull. Valtteri Bottas finished third in the second Mercedes.
Unlike the previous race in Silverstone, the Spanish Grand Prix was calm. The rider did not suffer from extreme tire wear this time. Hamilton started well from pole position and had the race under his control until the finish.
“Everything went smoothly. The whole team gave a fantastic performance. We felt great in the car. We did the race perfectly tactically and I think we learned a lot from the previous weekend,” Hamilton recalled the defeat from the Red Bull in the Grand Prix to the 70’s. On the contrary, Bottas dropped to fourth place after the start, which cost him not only a fight for victory in the final billing, but also for second place. “The key moment was the start. Red Bull did not find any “magic strategy” this time, so Verstappen’s maximum was the fact that he got between the two Mercedes. “I think that being able to split the two Mercedes was a good result for us today. I am very satisfied with the second position,” said the Dutchman at the finish.
On the Spanish circuit, the historic Formula 1 tables changed. First, Kimi Räikkönen in Alfa Romeo overcame the 83,846 sharp-kilometer Grand Prix during Sunday’s event, beating former statistics leader Fernando Alonso.
Hamilton then scored 156th on the podium, breaking away from Michael Schumacher.
The championship continues on August 30 with the Belgian Grand Prix on the circuit in Spa-Francorchamps.
