Seville (Spain), June 14, LETA. The Spanish national football team played a 0: 0 (0: 0) draw with Sweden on Monday in the European Championship final match in Seville.
This was the first game in the 2021 European Championship that ended without a goal scored.
The match started cautiously and the Spaniards controlled the course of the game throughout the first half. Red Furja were close to putting the equalizer away after 38 minutes as the opposing defense lost control of the ball to Alvaro Morata in a scuffle towards the left of the goal, but in the end the ball was cleared over the dead ball line. Then, at the end of the second half, Alexander Isaac’s ball from Markos Ljorente’s foot hit the post, this time the luck was on the Spanish side’s side.
At the end of the half, the Spanish footballers put a lot of pressure on the goal of the Swedish national team. In one of the episodes, only goalkeeper Robin Ulsen saved the Swedes from a lost goal after Daniel Olmo’s shot.
The Spaniards continued to play in the second half, but in the 60th minute the Swedes broke through the opponents’ attack. A counterattack by Īzaks after 3 minutes could have resulted in a goal, but Markuss Berjs, coming in on the left, couldn’t get the shot off.
Ulsens kicked a short distance from the distance in the last minute of Herarda Moreno, holding 0: 0 on the scoreboard. With 30 minutes played, Moreno had a couple of good opportunities to reply, but the home team’s keeper Pavlo Sarabija just wouldn’t surrender.
Despite their dominating performance, the Spanish footballers did not score and were whistled by their fans.
It has already been reported that in this subgroup Slovakia unexpectedly defeated Poland 2: 1 (1: 0).
Spain is a three-time European champion and is the only team to have won two titles in a row (2008 and 2012). The Spaniards are also 1984 vice-champions. The best result for the Swedes so far is the semi-final achieved in the debut championship in 1992.
The Spanish national team before the European Championship played one test match, fighting a goalless draw with Portugal 0-0. After that, a couple of Covid-19 cases were discovered in the national team, due to which in the second test match against Lithuania the U-21 team went on the field, which won with 4: 0. The Swedes win 2: 0 over Finland and 3: 1 over Armenia in test matches.
Spain has met the Swedish national team 15 times, the Spaniards have won six times, the Swedes have won three and the matches have been tied six times. The Spaniards have remained undefeated in the last five games. Both teams met in the qualifying and final tournament of the 2008 championship, as well as in the selection of these championships and now also in the final tournament.
“Red Fury” has been led by Luis Enrike for the last three years with a half-year break, but Janne Andešsons, who has been in his position since 2016, is at the top of the Swedish national team.
Captain Sergio Buskett, who was still in isolation over the weekend, was unable to play for the Spanish national team due to a positive Covid-19 test. However, defender Diego Ljorente has returned to the standings, who has been negative in the last four Covid-19 tests and has been given the green light for training.
The Spanish national team will start in this final without Real Madrid captain Serhio Ramos. Alvaro Morata, who has scored 19 goals in 40 matches, is by far the most productive of this national team, but Jordie Alba, Ferrans Torress, David de Hea, as well as other footballers will also contribute to the results.
Sweden is also not playing in the optimal line-up in the final tournament, because Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who has returned to the national team, cannot participate in the championship due to injury. Due to Covid-19, the talented Dejan Kuluševskis and Matīss Svanberjs could not participate in the first match. Experienced striker Marcus Berth came to the rescue, but Alexander Isaac gives the spark of youth. Midfielder Emil Fosberg plays a big role in shaping the attack.
