Spanish Football Federation Dismisses Jorge Vilda as Coach of Women’s National Team

The Spanish Football Federation announced today, Tuesday, the dismissal of Jorge Vilda as coach of the women’s national team, amid repercussions related to the scandal caused by Luis Rubiales, former president of the Spanish Football Federation.

Felda was the only one from the coaching staff of the Spanish women’s national team who did not resign in protest of Rubiales’ behavior when he kissed Spain’s national team player Jenny Hermoso without her consent, after Spain won the Women’s World Cup after defeating England in the final of the tournament that took place in Australia and New Zealand. .

The 15 players in the Spanish national team refused to play under the leadership of Filda last year, protesting his strict style of dealing.

However, the Spanish Football Federation rejected the position of the players at the time and confirmed that these players will not be able to return to the national team unless they “admit the mistake and ask for forgiveness.”

The Spanish Football Federation’s statement on Tuesday said the decision to sack Filda was one of the first “renewal measures” under current president Pedro Rocha.

Rocha published a message earlier on Tuesday apologizing on behalf of the Spanish Football Federation for Rubiales’ behaviour.

“We appreciate Filda’s impeccable behavior, both personal and sporting, as a key element in the remarkable growth of women’s football in Spain,” said Rocha.

“During his long tenure, Filda has been a supporter of the values of respect and sportsmanship in football,” the statement added.

The statement concluded, “The Spanish Football Federation expresses its gratitude to Jorge Vilda for his professionalism and dedication throughout those years, and wishes him every success in the future.”
