Spanish customs have seized 9,500 kilos of cocaine in the southern port city of Algeciras. According to customs and the Spanish police, it is the largest cocaine seizure in the country ever.
The drugs were found in a container between bananas on Wednesday, the authorities announced today. The container was shipped from Ecuador.
The police received a tip in July about a shipment of Colombian coke that would be shipped to Spain via Ecuador. According to the Spanish police, the drugs would be transported to Portugal and then distributed in the rest of Europe.
The cocaine was found in packages with thirty different logos, which according to the police can be linked to thirty European criminal organizations.
