Alves is expected to remain in detention pending trial. The start date of the trial is unknown at this time.
In early January, a woman, whose name has not been released, accused Alves of raping and beating her in the bathroom of a nightclub in Barcelona on 30 December. The football player initially denied that he was familiar with the victim. Then the athlete said that the sex was consensual.
On January 20, Alves was arrested without bail.
After the charges were brought against the footballer, who is considered the most titled in the world thanks to 43 trophies won, the Mexican Pumas terminated his contract and demanded $5 million in compensation.
