Spanish companies in Mexico with a “real commitment”: Spanish embassy

The little more than 7 thousand Spanish companies that operate in Mexico have a “real and clear commitment” to our country in the medium and long term to promote development, competitiveness and sustainability, stated María Peña Mateos, economic and commercial advisor of the economic and commercial office of the Spanish embassy in Mexico.

During the IV Hispamex Forum, held at the Cultural Center of Spain in Mexico, Peña Mateos explained that Spanish companies operate in most of the economic sectors of our country, as they have large and small consortia, financial technology companies, energy , among others, hence their commitment to having a positive impact in the areas in which they operate.

“The 7 thousand Spanish companies that are in this country, large, micro, startups, energy, practically in all sectors are committed to Mexico. The bet is consolidated or it may be the first country where it is located (the company outside of Spain), but there is a huge volume of companies that have a real and clear commitment to this country in the medium and long term,” he said.

He specified that Mexico is the first trading partner for Spain in Latin America while the European country is the second largest investor after the United States. The strong commercial relationship becomes more evident when one considers that Mexico is the third largest investor in Spain outside the European Union.

“Our objective is the internationalization of Spain in Mexico and of Mexico in Spain and how through this link we can strengthen competitiveness… We know and we are convinced and we work on it, because internationalization is part of the solution to the great challenges that we face,” he mentioned.

Peña Mateos considered that internationalization, or the fact that companies in a region operate throughout the world, makes economies more open, act more among themselves and are more interrelated, “which generates a transfer of knowledge with a driving force.” which is innovation and that allows us to improve the impact we have in the societies where we are.”

The new sustainable and environmental criteria that exist worldwide for the year 2030, he explained, “change the paradigm that we were used to and places the company at the center of development, as one more actor where the integration of sustainability has a positive factor.” in competitiveness.”

“We have been integrating sustainability and the impact of companies for some time because we do not separate it from the objective of being more competitive, sustainability as the center of the company reinforces demand, the link with customers who will be loyal, and also competitiveness from the offer, the link to employees, suppliers and regulators and thus the company is more competitive,” added the diplomat.

He added that companies must also focus on adding sustainable criteria to their products or services so that customers are more loyal and can become more competitive and have a greater impact in any country in which they operate, since that is what today consumers demand.

“And technology must be included and that should help us include more people from the base of the pyramid to the market, have a better impact on the environment and be able to respond to demand with results,” Peña Mateos stressed.
