“Spanish Carmaker Seat Plans to Abandon Car Manufacturing, Focus on Urban Mobility Brand by 2030”

Spanish carmaker Seat could completely abandon car manufacturing by 2030, instead becoming an urban mobility brand in an effort to offer products to young customers living in bigger cities. It is reported by the media Autocarreferring to an unnamed person inside Seat.

Last year, Seat, part of the Volkswagen concern, delivered 385,000 cars, which is 18% less than the year before. The manufacturer blames it on the lack of semiconductors and other components, but industry experts point out that Seat currently has no electric models and this is also considered a deficiency.

“Currently, we are keeping Seat modern by offering hybrid technologies and efficient internal combustion engines until the end of this decade. We are currently analyzing what role Seat will play when internal combustion engines are discontinued. Seat could transform into a mobility service provider and urban mobility brand. Its target audience would be young people living in cities,” a company representative was quoted as saying.

Currently, Seat’s only electric product is the “Mo” electric scooter. Previously, there were plans to create an electric model as well, but for now it has been put on hold and an electric Seat is not expected until at least 2026. There is no guarantee that there will be an electric Seat at all, while the role of the development of electromobility is reserved for the Cupra brand.
