The agreement must soon be converted into law. The preliminary bill also states that companies should never force their employees to work from home.
If employees do this of their own accord, employers must compensate them financially for, for example, computers or office furniture they need. Additional internet or telephone bills may also be covered by the rules.
In the Netherlands, the FNV union also argued for a home work allowance. Employers do not see much of it for the time being. After all, employees also get a lot of free time back if they no longer have to travel to the office.

According to the Spanish Minister of Labor, Yolanda Diaz, Spain is leading the way in Europe with the new regulations. She also announced that she would like to extend a temporary unemployment benefit program.
Few Spaniards were used to working from home before the outbreak of the new corona virus. According to the European statistics agency Eurostat, only 3.5% of Spanish workers did this before the pandemic broke out, compared to an average of 9% across the European Union. This changed after a lockdown was instituted this spring, when more than 3.5 million Spaniards were forced to work remotely.
