The Spanish Association of Vaccinology (AEV) celebrates the steps taken so far in the creation of the vaccination and immunization information system, ‘Sivain’. This same Thursday the deadline for making contributions to the Royal Decree project for the creation and regulation of this registry ended. The scientific society has ensured that this new system will allow Spain to consolidate its leadership in the field of vaccines on a European and global scale, and is satisfied with the initiative.
From the AEV they emphasize that “the great beneficiary of this registry will be the citizen, who will be able to have all their vaccines registered regardless of where they have been administered and even if they have been done in different autonomous communities, something that until now was complex but thanks to Sivanin will have a solution”.
In fact, this is how the AEV has informed the Ministry of Health through a letter in which they have recalled the importance of the registry also including the data of all the products administered (vaccines, drugs that provide immunity…) in the private sector. “We currently have an exhaustive record of the vaccines administered through the Public Health System. Although these make up a large part of the total, there is also a large number of vaccines that are administered in private health centers ”, explains Jaime Pérez, president of the AEV.
These are vaccines that are not financed or well financed through the mutual societies that, in some communities, may not appear in the system’s records and may not be included in the vaccination coverage data.
For this reason, the fact that Sivain contemplates the dumping of this information in the Public Health System is “good news” that will allow, among other things, to have more precise information on the real vaccination coverage of the population.
Likewise, it will also improve the pharmacovigilance of vaccines, since health professionals will have a record of which vaccines (specialty, batch, expiration date) have been administered to each patient. “This would allow us to better monitor the traceability of the administered vaccines,” adds Pérez.
Finally, it will avoid errors in the vaccine prescription and administration chain, since, in this way, all the vaccines that a patient has received will be recorded, not only those that were administered in the public health system. “This way we would avoid, for example, the administration of unnecessary doses due to not having proof of all the vaccines that have been given,” they comment from the AEV.
In this sense, the Spanish Association of Vaccination emphasizes that it is essential that there is fluid and permanent communication between the different agents that accompany the patient in their health process. “This, without a doubt, results in better health care, as well as a better perception by the patient of the health system that cares for them,” concludes Pérez.
