GOTHENBURG. The Spanish and Swedish players made a joint demonstration before kick-off.
Magdalena Eriksson then appeared to say a few words to Alexia Putellas.
– I just wanted to take the opportunity to say how much I respect what they have done, says Eriksson.
The Swedish players lined up together with the Spanish players before kick-off at Gamla Ullevi. They held up a banner with the text “Se Acabo” (“it’s over”) and “Our fight is the world’s fight”.
Magdalena Eriksson, who often raises her voice on various issues, ended up next to Alexia Putellas. The Spanish world star has been one of those who have been seen most outwardly in the last month in the Spanish players’ fight against their own football association.
Magdalena Eriksson then took the opportunity to convey her admiration.
– I just wanted to take an opportunity to say how much I respect what they have done and how much I support them. That’s all I could say, it went very fast. I wanted to get it said and show it – and then it was a match, she says.

Asllani in front of the team captain
Another Spanish player who has gone through the cracks is team captain Irené Paredes. Kosovar Asllani was in front of Paredes after the final whistle.
– We discussed what they are going through and their struggle. They are grateful that we support them, of course. As I told them, it’s not just your fight, it’s the whole world’s fight. They all have our backs and should not give up but continue with what they are doing, says Asllani.
What does it mean to you personally to be able to do the manifestation that you do?
– It is important. It is the whole world’s struggle and not just an issue within the sports world. It’s a societal issue and these are the battles we have to fight. They are definitely not the first national team to go through this and it won’t be the last.
