The Spanish and Israeli bell pepper seasons are in full swing for Dutch company Gilad. «The war means fewer flights from Israel. There is a lack of workers to harvest and package all the peppers, but we still have enough,” says Frank Mostert.
«The current demand from the United States and Canada is very high, so we send many Spanish and Israeli products there. Canadian production ended at the same time as the Dutch season and there is still some product left from Mexico. “We can meet that demand.” «The difference is total. Fortunately, the exchange rate is becoming very favorable. Bell pepper prices are not bad for this time of year, especially the prices we can sell abroad.
«This week we received the last Dutch peppers of the season. The season started very badly, but ended well, although prices have dropped compared to recent weeks. We have also restarted Spanish pepper production,” says Frank. Gilat production began a month ago with mini cucumbers from Spain. «They sell like hot cakes. There are a few of these, but their prices are excellent.
Preparations for the new Dutch greenhouse vegetable season have also begun. «We want to expand our surface even more next season. We are strong in bell peppers, chilies and mini cucumbers and we want to grow more hectares. We also want to add more products to our range,” concludes Frank. .
