Spaniards are allowed to run again after weeks of lockdown

People can take to the streets in groups: sports are allowed until 10:00, after which the elderly are allowed to take to the streets to exercise. Children are in the following group: from 12:00 to 19:00. Exercising together is only allowed with people who belong to the same household.

Relaxation of measures

In Spain, more easing will follow in the near future. Shops may partly open their doors again next week, and terraces can also open again for a maximum of 30 percent. From Monday, Spaniards can go to the hairdresser again: “I understand that there are huge waiting lists for this,” says Zoutberg.

The country has had a very strict lockdown since March 14. Until today, Spaniards were only allowed to go outside to buy food or medicine or to do an essential job. Last week, the government already relaxed the quarantine measures for children: they were allowed to leave the house for one hour per day, accompanied by an adult, within a radius of one kilometer around the house.

Spanish Prime Minister Sánchez is very cautious about easing. “There is enormous pressure from all kinds of sectors to open again. But if things go wrong, we will go back to a new lockdown,” says correspondent Zoutberg.

Heavily hit

Spain is one of the worst affected countries with the corona virus, with more than 24,000 deaths. Zoutberg: “It now seems that things are going better with Spain, but it is the country where three hundred people die every day.”
