Spain’s Last Friendly Match: Good Feelings and Victory

Spain’s last friendly match before traveling to Indonesia on Tuesday to play the World Cup left good feelings in addition to the victory. The Dominican Republic was an uncomfortable rival, with a somewhat anarchic game, with a lot of 1-on-1, athleticism and a Towns that goes a little free and is very big. Spain went from less to more and played better from the second quarter until finishing off the job in the last period.

First half of streaks for each other, as in other previous friendlies. A 0-12 run midway through the initial period hurt Spain and 16-21 on the scoreboard, with several three-pointers and turnovers by Scariolo’s men. But in the second quarter there were some great minutes in attack and defense and the Dominicans could not respond (28-27, min. 15).

The Spanish team continued very well in each possession and left with an interesting income at half-time, but a three-pointer from Feliz left it 40-36 in the light. Despite 40 percent in shots from two and the weak 4 of 16 in triples, Scariolo’s men commanded (later they would finish with a 10 of 29). The Dominican response arrived and another jam from Spain (48-52, min. 26). A 5-0 awakened Spain, a zonal defense helped to prevent rival points in the area and raised doubts and on top of that came four three-pointers in a row.

From Jaime, two followed by Abrines and one by Parra also on the horn of the fourth for 68-60. The advantage went up a little more (74-63, min. 33) and the match was completely broken (78-69, min. 37). Spain had found the formula without needing the Hernangómez, in theory those who should lead the team in official matches, and with Abrines, Parra and Garuba being important, as well as a young Juan Núñez who aims to have many minutes.

86 – Spain (18+22+28+18): Núñez (16), Abrines (8), Aldama (6), Claver (2), Willy Hernangómez (9) -starting five-, Llull (6), Garuba (7), Juancho Hernangómez (6), Jaime Fernández (6 ), Parra (11), Brizuela (6) and Abalde (3).

77 – Dominican Republic (21+15+24+17): Feliz (9), Liz (8), Quiñones (12), Vargas (4), Towns (17) -starting five- Mendoza (3), Montero (3), Delgado (7), Figueroa (3), Peña ( 5), Solano (0), Suero (0) and Núñez (3).
