Spain wins bronze in women’s tennis doubles

Paris. Spain’s Cristina Bucsa and Sara Sorribes won bronze in the women’s doubles at the Paris 2024 tennis tournament on Sunday by beating Czechs Karolina Muchova and Linda Noskova, ahead of the men’s final between Novak Djokovic and Carlos Alcaraz.

The Iberian duo won with scores of 6-2 and 6-2 in a competition that will also be decided this Sunday by the Italians Sara Errani and Jasmine Paolini against the Russians Mirra Andreeva and Diana Shnaider.

“I’m incredibly happy, my lifelong dream was to win a medal and we’ve achieved it,” said Sorribes through tears minutes after winning the medal on Roland Garros’ centre court, the Philippe Chatrier.

Calmer but equally satisfied, her teammate Bucsa reaffirmed her feeling of total “happiness” and shared her triumph with her family who awaits her in Spain.

The Iberians performed an almost perfect match in the bronze medal match, committing just 8 unforced errors in the entire match, compared to 26 for the Czechs.

Bucas and Sorribes, number 20 and 27 in the ATP doubles rankings respectively, brought bronze to Spain, which has already secured at least silver with Alcaraz in the singles final.
