Spain advances to the quarterfinals 2023 U-17 World Cup. The Red eliminated Japan with a narrow 2-1 victory.
Round of 16 match U-17 World Cup between Spain vs Japan held at Manahan Stadium, Solo, Monday (20/11/2023) evening WIB. Since after kick-off, Spain tried to control possession of the ball.
Only eight minutes into the game, Spain was ahead. Juan Hernandez pushed forward on the left then passed to the middle.
Marc Guiu failed to control the ball, but was controlled by Quim Junyent behind him. Junyent then finished the attack with a horizontal kick.
GOAL! Japan responded in the 40th minute. Ryunosuke Sato won the ball in the final third, then passed to Gaku Nawata. Nawata’s kick ended in the top right corner of the goal.
Spain continued to control the ball after the restart. Meanwhile, Japan tightened its defense and aimed for a counterattack.
GOAL! Spain took the lead again in the 74th minute. Junyent’s breakthrough pass was received by Guiu, who coolly beat goalkeeper Wataru Goto.
Spain lost the ball in the middle and became a Japanese attack. Homare Tokuda made a quick decision to shoot from distance, but it was easily controlled by Raul Jimenez.
Until the match was over, no more goals were scored. Spain also qualified for the last eight and will face the winner of the Germany vs United States match.
