Spain to Send Four More Tanks to Ukraine, Vows Support with Humanitarian Aid and Defensive Weapons

The next shipment, which will include four more tanks, will follow later, Alvarez added in an interview with the German media group “Funke”.

“We will support Ukraine as long as necessary,” the Spanish foreign minister emphasized. “This includes humanitarian aid, the reception of refugees and the supply of defensive weapons.”

In recent weeks, 55 Ukrainian soldiers have been trained in driving and maintaining “Leopard” tanks in Spain.

Spain has a total of 347 Leopard tanks in its arsenal.

108 of them are tanks of the 2A4 model, and 239 are tanks of the latest type 2A6.

Spain has not agreed to hand over tanks of the latest modification to Ukraine, because they are said to be necessary for the defense of the country itself.

Ukraine has already received Leopard 2 tanks from Germany, Canada and Poland, as well as similar British Challenger 2 tanks.
