Madrid. The president of the Spanish government, the socialist Pedro Sánchez, caused a political storm after his decision to take five days to reflect on whether or not he continues to lead the Spanish Executive.the result of fatigue with the dirty war campaigns against them orchestrated by the right and the extreme right.
While the Spanish president reflected in solitude about his immediate future, the Spanish Socialist Workers Party (PSOE), led by former president José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero, called on citizens to mobilize to stop “the mud machine” of the “reactionary forces”, for which they intoned the old Civil War motto of “They will not pass!”
The PSOE spokesperson in the Congress of Deputies was one of the first to call for a mass closing of ranks, evoking the time before the civil clash in Spain: “Now more than ever, we socialists are with our President. Pedro Sánchez represents the dignity and courage that is needed in the face of an immoral right that is ready for anything. Courage and strength, President! They will not pass! ”He said in his message on social networks, which also coincided with a campaign that began last Wednesday night and that sought social mobilization to “give support” to the Spanish president.
Just yesterday, in front of the PSOE headquarters in Madrid, there was a discreet demonstration of support, in which they barely managed to gather around 80 people, but in reality the objective is for citizens to take to the streets throughout the weekend to express his support for Sánchez and thus “prevent” him from finally resigning, as he himself announced in his open letter.
One of the socialist leaders calling for mobilization is former president Rodríguez Zapatero, who appealed to the “mobilization of members and sympathizers of the PSOE in favor of the democracy of respect, justice and the task of Pedro Sánchez. Each one can do it in one way: a tweet is worth it, it is worth going to the group, a letter is worth it, it is worth expressing oneself… but let’s react to the insidiousness with democratic courage and not with desistance.”
The former Spanish president denounced that the dirty war campaigns undertaken by the right and the extreme right, whose last episode was the presentation of a criminal complaint against Sánchez’s wife, Begoña Gómez, for the crimes of influence peddling and corruption, represent basically trying to “dehumanize and disqualify the adversary.”
The first vice president of the government, María Jesús Montero, added that “the president is being the object of a perfectly orchestrated campaign of harassment and demolition from the right and the extreme right of permanent delegitimization, a strategy of dehumanization such as we have not seen in a long time.”
The leader of the right-wing Popular Party (PP), Albert Núñez Feijóo, summarized in his words what a good part of Spanish society, more related to the right, thinks, by maintaining that “the Spaniards witness with astonishment the embarrassment that Sánchez has caused with its corrosive politics.” He also defined the Spanish president as “a discontinuous permanent president who seeks to intimidate the opposition, judges and journalists and put on a teenage show after which you have to go after so that he does not get angry.”
Feijóo went further and predicted that Sánchez “has launched a political survival strategy trying to mobilize people out of compassion. But he cannot kidnap an entire nation to put it at the service of his defense and divide Spain into two sides.”
