Spain sends a military ship to monitor the coast of Melilla

The Spanish government plans to send a military vessel to the coast of Melilla, a border town with Morocco, as part of maritime surveillance.

According to the Spanish daily ABCthe Spanish authorities intend to send a coastal patrol boat for the first time to Melilla next summer.

The main mission of the ship will be to continuously monitor the territorial waters of the Alboran Sea, as well as those of the autonomous city of Melilla, where many migrants enter European territory via Morocco.

The ship will be integrated into the Maritime Action Force of the Spanish Navy. Buildings of this type are part of the Spanish customs and coastguard services. Morocco also has it, as do several other countries.
