Spain plays a pivotal role during its participation in the Climate Conference of the Parties (COP28), by virtue of its presidency of the Council of the European Union, which has its own pavilion within the conference.
Spain also has its own pavilion in the “Blue Zone”, where it hosts about 50 events during the conference days, with the participation of various entities, companies and departments from all over the world.
The Spanish Pavilion serves as a platform that brings together various entities to present their agreements and goals related to climate ambition. As a new feature this year, all events are available to follow on the social media channels of the Ministry of Environmental Transition and Demographic Challenge and the Spanish Biodiversity Foundation.
An event was held under the title “The Bioeconomy: Can Inclusion, Innovation and Sustainability Be Compatible?”, with the aim of understanding the different approaches taken by each country in the field of the bioeconomy and seeking to harmonize climate goals.
Yesterday, the last day of activity in the Spanish pavilion at the COP28 conference, the Biodiversity Foundation participated in an event entitled “Challenges in Implementing Regenerative Agriculture Practices,” which will provide an overview of the challenges facing the expansion of regenerative agriculture, in addition to possible solutions.
Information from the World Wide Fund for Nature indicates that Spain will be hotter and drier in 2050, with water availability expected to decrease and demand for it increasing.
Moreover, key sectors of the Spanish economy, such as agriculture, forestry, tourism and transport, which are closely dependent on the climate, face significant risks from climate change.
To address this, in 2020 Spain launched its new Climate Change Adaptation Plan 2021-2030, which includes proposals such as the Climate Change and Energy Transition Bill, the Long-Term Strategy for a Modern, Competitive and Climate Neutral Economy in 2050, and Integrated National Energy and Climate Plans.
