On Thursday morning, the Spanish newspaper reported that the Guardia Civil had arrested a man in his 40s with Norwegian citizenship in connection with the man being linked to terrorism.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs now confirms to Dagbladet that they are aware of the arrest.
– The Foreign Service is familiar with the case, and will offer consular assistance to the prisoner in accordance with established practice and the current framework for consular assistance. Due to the statutory duty of confidentiality, we have no further comments on the case, writes spokesperson Siri Svendsen at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to Dagbladet.
Trond Hugubakken, communications director at PST, confirms to Dagbladet that they are also aware of the arrest.
– Other statements must be given by Spanish police, he says to Dagbladet.
According to Spanish police, electronic material related to terrorism has been found on the man’s computer.
The Spanish police also believe that the Norwegian is said to have tried to get from Spain to Syria together with three others, who have previously participated in acts of violence.
