This weekend the Motocross of Nations takes place at Matterley Basin. Yesterday was the day of the qualifying races, where Spain emerged as the strongest team.
In the open category, Jett Lawrence (Australia/Honda) dominated the event: he took the lead on the second lap by overtaking Rúben Fernández (Spain/Honda) and finished the race 6.145 seconds ahead of his rival. Maxime Renaux (France/Yamaha) took third place and held this position from start to finish.
In MXGP, the 2023 and 2024 world champion showed his superior performance. The Spaniard overtook his championship rival, Tim Gajser (Slovenia/Honda), by 5.630 seconds. Romain Febvre (France/Kawasaki) overtook Hunter Lawrence (Australia/Honda) on the last lap and secured third place.
Tom Vialle (France/KTM) also dominated the MX2 qualifying race. The rider led from start to finish and overtook Lucas Coenen (Belgium/Husqvarna) by 9.653 seconds. Simon Längenfelder (Germany/GasGas) comfortably took third place after overtaking Max Anstie (Great Britain/Yamaha) on the penultimate lap.
In the overall standings of the three qualifying races, Spain leads by three points, one point ahead of France and two points ahead of Australia. Points correspond directly to the final position in each race, meaning that the fewer points a team has, the better their placing.
Estonia finished in 19th place with 31 points, the same number of points as Japan, but secured 19th place through tiebreaking in the third result, thus qualifying for the main final. Japan, along with 12 other teams, will compete for the final spot in the main final during the B Final. One of these teams will be the winner of the C final, which includes Croatia, Greece, Iceland, Lithuania and Poland.
