Spain Grants Untied Reimbursable Credit to Morocco for Building Two Water Treatment Plants in Zag and Moulay Brahim

The Central Government of Spain has approved this Tuesday the granting of an untied reimbursable credit worth five million euros to the National Office of Electricity and Potable Water (Onee) of Morocco for the construction of two water treatment plants in the towns of Zag and Moulay Brahim.

According to the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Tourism, the project is “of strategic importance for Spain” because it means taking a new step in trade relations with Morocco.

The Government has stressed that Onee has recently relaunched these tenders and has reiterated its interest in receiving financing from the Spanish State.

For this reason, the Spanish central office specifies that “trade relations between the two countries are expected to become even closer and that this will benefit our companies”

The project, financed by the Fund for the Internationalization of the Company (FIEM), consists of the provision of drinking water through the supply and installation in order to reduce the content of mineral salts in the water in the towns of Zag and Moulay Brahim , as well as the maintenance of the plants for a maximum period of five years.

These two will be compact and will carry out the treatment using the reverse osmosis method, that is, they will purify the water by eliminating suspended particles.

The Government has stressed that it is a sector that offers opportunities for Spanish companies due to its growth potential and their competitive position in the market.

As the department headed by Héctor Torres expressed in a statement, the project is of strategic importance for Spain because it means taking a new step in trade relations with Morocco, by agreeing to finance a separate project, responding to its repeated requests in this regard. , in a framework of financial collaboration from more than ten years ago.
