In the joint statement at the end of the meeting, in which the future High Representative for Foreign Policy of the EU, Kaja Kallasthis group of countries called G5EU+ has admitted that “common security is more threatened than ever in our lifetimes” by Russia.
The signatories regret Moscow’s refusal to stop its aggression and engage in peace talks and denounce that “increasingly dependent on partners such as Iran and North Korea” to maintain its war machine, in addition to having increased its “hybrid activities against EU and NATO countries.”
Therefore, to face “this historic challenge”, the six countries express their determination to “remain united with their European and transatlantic partners to think and act big on European security.”
“Los European countries must play a greater role in ensuring our own securityacting together with our transatlantic and global partners,” they maintain, betting on a “strong and united NATO” and increasing its spending on security and defense.
Regarding this issue, they admit that “in many cases, spending above 2% of GDP will be necessary to address growing security threats and meet all deterrence and defense requirements” in the Euro-Atlantic space. Likewise, they are committed to strengthening the European defense industry, investing in “critical military capabilities” and continue researching new technologies.
As regards Ukraine, Spain and the rest of the countries commit to continue increasing their military, economic and financial support to Ukraine and reiterate their support for a “just and lasting peace” based on the United Nations Charter. In addition, they will continue to try to deter Russia, hampering its ability to “maintain this war of aggression and limiting the development of Russian military capabilities.”

On the other hand, coinciding with the 1,000 days of the conflict, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has published a statement in which “Spain reiterates its condemnation of Russia’s illegal and unjustified aggression against Ukrainein flagrant violation of the United Nations Charter, and expresses its unconditional support to the Ukrainian Government and people in their efforts to confront such aggression.”
Spain, the statement adds, has provided support to Ukraine in all areas from the beginning and “will continue to do so for as long as necessary, in a joint and coordinated manner with the other countries of the European Union and the rest of its partners and allies.” “.
