As of this Thursday, It will no longer be mandatory to present the Covid Passport to enter Spain from other EU countries. This has been dictated by a resolution of the Directorate of Public Health of the Ministry of Health published in the Official State Gazette (BOE), which means remove travel restrictions at European level, online as other countries such as Greece have already done and as the European Commission has been recommending for weeks.
With this resolution, which will enter into force today, all travel restrictions for those arriving from the EU and Norway Iceland, Norway and Switzerland as countries not associated with the Schengen Area.
Yes, some controls will be maintained, already lowered just two weeks ago for travelers arriving in Spain from the rest of the world. Since then, they are no longer required to present proof of being vaccinated against Covid, but a PCR test or antigen test with a negative result and the only measure they will have to go through is the possibility that upon arrival they will be make a health control.
“People who arrive in Spain by air or sea from countries that do not belong to the European Union or are not considered Schengen associated countries may be subject to a health check at the first point of entry that will include, at least, the temperature taking, a documentary control and a visual control about his physical condition”, says the text published this Thursday by the BOE.
Improvement of the situation and request from Brussels
In this way, Spain has almost completely eliminated the restrictions relating to -inbound- travel. Justify this decision in “Improving the epidemiological situation” which, in general, “is causing many Member States to no longer require travelers within the EU to present COVID certificates or impose other travel restrictions,” says the Public Health resolution.
In the particular case of Spain, add as a reason for making these decisions “high vaccination coverage ratesabove the EU average, and the favorable situation of the health system”. Therefore, he concludes, “it is considered appropriate to also eliminate travel restrictions” for people from EU countries and Norway, Switzerland and Iceland.

With the change that will take place this Thursday, Spain complies with the recommendation made in April by the European Commission to the Member States to be completely removing restrictions traveling in the EU as his situation allowed.
The first was Greece, which removed the obligation to present the EU Covid Certificate to European passengers on May 1. Then, Health sources indicated that the Commission had also contacted the department of directing Carolina Darias to find out when this decision would also be made in Spain. The question has been under study for several weeks until finally the Government has withdrawn travel restrictions this Thursday that required showing an up-to-date vaccination certificate against Covid, one of having had the disease at most six months before or a negative PCR or antigen test.
